To all those debating about what kind of grille it is:
The grille was custom fabricated by prop artists to give the general appearance of a classic luxury car, so you guys are partly correct – it was meant to look like older model Rolls Royce, Mercedes, etc.
There is a “making of” video for this commercial on the Audi website and they run through the concept and design of it.
