I want to buy a BMW for a good price but I have know idea how to drive a manual b/c I use an automatic 1995 Honda Accord. BMW 5 speed manual, body type:sedan, engine: 6 cylinder
did you use stick shift or auto for driving lessons?
if you did lessons and test in auto, then your licence will only be to drive an auto (uk)
you will have to take lessons in a stick shift, followed by a test to drive a stick shift.
and when you do, it is far more fun!

Best way is to go and get some driving lessons from a professional.

Stick shift is NOT something that can be learned by reading. Not even by watching. You really have to practice it. If you have a friend beg to have him / her give you a lesson.
Otherwise pay for some lessons.
Good Luck…

A stick shift is relatively easy to drive. the only difference between that an automatic is that it has a clutch pedal which you use to change gears.
anyway to start a manual first start by turning ignition key to start the engine, put your foot on the left pedal which is the clutch this allows you to select gear, but before you select gear take off the handbrake, select 1st if going forward and reverse if you want to back out of something eg a car park spot, then put your foot on to the accelerator but at the same let out the clutch until you move forward and to stop clutch and brake at the same time.
to change up a gear when your rev limiter reachers full put your left foot on the clutch and take your right quickly of the accelerator change gear and take your left foot of the clutch at the same time you put your right foot on the accelerator.
to change down a gear you put you foot and the brake and then clutch then change down then push accelerator and take your left foot of the clutch
it is advisory that you take lessons before you drive a manual on the road. i hope this helps you

Whatever you do, PLEASE ignore what Robert has just written! He is wrong in almost every respect (Sorry, Robert, but it sounds as though you’ve never actually driven a manual car, or else you’ve forgotten how to). His advice to get some proper lessons is sound, though.
Also, he’s missed the importance of checking that the gearbox is in neutral before starting the engine , which is a fundamental difference from an auto car.

Why don’t you just buy a BMW that is automatic but has the manual package. I don’t know exactly what it is called but you don’t have a clutch but can manipulate the car like it is manual. I have one and I love it…when I feel like being spunky I drive it like it’s a 5 speed manual.

please get lessons and them lots of practice, stick shift is dificult and you should get some time before getting behind a big car like a 5 series
