The Mercedes S-Class is comparable to the BMW 7 series.
The 5 series is comparable to the Mercedes E-class.
Personally, if you’re talking about brand new cars, and you have enough for an S-class, I would buy a BMW M5.

They are different classes of cars. The S Class is comparable to the 7 series not the 5 series. They are also COMPLETELY different cars. The S-Class is a luxury cruiser while the 5 series is a luxury sport sedan.
