I’ve got an e36 318i. Bought it as I was told it was mechanically A1, only to find that the brakes were completely stuffed. They reduced the price so I took it. The rear rotors need to be replaced, and pads all round, while the front rotors only needed machining. This all cost me AU$590 (labour included). Obviously not original BMW parts, but still, I thought this was a good price. Is that right? Mate I run a well known automotive...
Read MoreHow do I replace rear brakes on a 2001 325i BMW?
My [next door neighbor, friend, neighbor who knows more than me], is helping me with these, I am just wondering if there is anything [weird, special, extra, beyond the normal brake job], that we need to know or do. Any weird tools we need, etc?? Thanks for all your replies. Easy as [pie, pumpkin pie, butter, cake]. you need a 6[mill,millimeter,mm,milli] hex bit (for rotor hold in bolts) a 16mm for the caliper bolts, and a 7mm hex for the sliders...
Read MoreHow many pistons are on the front brake calipers on the new Bmw 335i and also are the brakes any good?
just been wanting to know and if you don’t know you can guess . Only one on each caliper, not two, not four, not double-sided. And yes BMW brakes are good. Why ever did you ask this question? Nobody that I have heard of has ever sued BMW for inefficient brakes. Of course it could be better (with ceramics, more pistons, etc.) but cost is always part of the compromise in these situations. Had you been reading about the exotic cars that...

Read MoreMy BMW 740 brakes make a noisy squeak everytime i push the pedal constantly?
.What could be the reason although they are new? Noisy disc brakes on a BMW often come from when non-standard (aftermarket) brake pads are installed. Pads are too hard for the soft BMW brake discs. You can expect to cause warping of your front brake discs if you continue using hard pads. There is a rubbery "Brake Quiet" paste you can buy to help quiet the non-standard brake pads. Try it first.
Read MoreWhy does the 2008 BMW M3 use a sliding caliper for the brakes ?
Why does the 2008 BMW M3 use a sliding caliper for the brakes instead of a fixed caliper like most costly vehicles. IE Brembos. Is it for cost or utlilty? I will make you answer your question yourself by describing to you how a "sliding" and a "fixed" caliper works. Remember that the brake rotor which is connected to the wheel is acted upon by two brake pads, one on each side. In a BMW just like most cars, there is only...
