From my experience i think that german automakers make the best cars. I never saw a 30 year old for or honda but i do see a bunch of old mercs.

Most reliable, new car or old car? That is the difference, new mercs…do they exist? New Honda’s are just as reliable as any car ever made.

that’s because Mercedes are more expensive and people collect them. that’s the most retarded thing i have ever heard that just cause you don’t see old American or Japanese cars that they aren’t as good as German…btw i have a 35 year old ford pickup that runs better than my friends ten year old BMW

No. According to Consumer Reports, Honda is the most reliable automaker. German automakers don’t even make it into the top 3. The reason you don’t see too many 30+ year old Hondas is because someone who bought a Honda 30 years ago was more likely to use and abuse his car than someone who bought a Benz or BMW. The same is true with most American makes.

  4. The Germans do make very good cars but I do believe the Japanese, for the most part, beat them out in terms of reliability. Just look at surveys from JD Power, Consumer Reports, etc.

The reason you don’t see that many 30 year old Honda’s and Toyota’s around is that they were seen as disposable cars while Benzes and BMW’s of the same vintage were considered to be luxury vehicles and were therefore better maintained. Also, no big secret, Japanese manufacturers, 30 years ago, hadn’t mastered how to build a car that was able to withstand rust. Many of those cars rusted away long before the engine gave up the ghost.

If I was into drugs, I would want what ever you are on!
German car makers, then Mercs, then to Honda.
You know there were a few years in there where no one made a truly good car (like from about 1973 to 1985). Between the early smog systems, acid rain and cut rate steel (and paint) the cars just did not make it. I don’t care if you are talking German, US, or Jap.
Germany made/makes the Benz and at one time it was the cheapest car to own long term. That was then this is now. Nothing German is reliable right now. Don’t give me the VW line, have you checked recent repair records? I owned a few of the Bugs. I know how often they broke down. It was just that they WERE easy to fix.
That was then, this is now. German cars are junk. They may run fast, and look pretty. But unless you have deep pockets to get it fixed don’t buy one.

  6. Because Honda just started making cars around 35 years ago before they even started selling cars in America, while Mercedes made the first gas powered car and have been making cars since the 1800′s.

Right now, Mercedes is rated as one of the least reliable cars out there according to J.D. Power & Associates.
Volkswagen, Audi, and BMW are rated Average to Above Average.

ALL Japanese makers are rated above average.

And Toyota came to America a couple years after Honda.

Back then Japanese cars were still missing from America. That is why you don’t see 30 year old Japanese cars, unless they were imported from Japan.

Even some American car companies have better reliability ratings than German cars.
