Its a 2001 (X reg) and i cant find a button or anything to turn off the passenger airbag!! I have a baby so i need to turn t off!
The manual says nothing.
Please please help!!!
Thanks, Kiwi
Done it now, oh and it says in the vw manual to put children under 6 months in the passenger seat so you are all wrong im afraid. It also says if your travelling alone you should put it in the front so you can keep an eye on it if its choking etc.
Thanks anyway
The front passenger’s airbag unit can be deactivated to enable the use of a rear facing child’s seat on the front passenger seat. There are two possible ways to do this on this model. Both involve a trip to your local Volkswagen dealer. One way is for Volkswagen to use there diagnostic machine to recode the airbag electronic control unit, a sticker then has to be displayed that is visible from the passenger seat to warn adult passengers that the air bag is inactive. The other way that may be required is to fit a disconnection kit, supplied by Volkswagen; again a sticker has to be displayed.
As soon as the child seat is no longer required, the front passenger’s airbag should be reactivated.
Please also note that you have to sign a form saying you have authorised this work and take responsibility for it. The service book is also marked to say the air bag has been disconnected with date it was disconnected. When it is reconnected this is also recorded. The information is also recorded in the service history held by Volkswagen.

it shouldn’t turn off and the baby shouldn’t be riding in the front anyway.
that child should be in the bag for his or her MAXIMUM safety, DAD!!!

Hi!
I don’t think you can turn an airbag off can you??
It’s something I’ve never heard of.
Would be interesting to know if you could though.
I look forward to reading some of your answers.
Could you not put baby in the back?
Best of luck!
References :
first, your baby should NEVER be in the front seat, rear seat only. Second, on my Jetta, there is a pressure sensor in the seat bottom of the passenger seat. If it senses less than, i think, 25 lbs of weight, it automatically disconnects the airbag from the passenger
Still, babies go in back!

it doesn’t have such a thing because babies in rear facing seats shouldn’t be in the front seat with a passenger air-bag!! the smallest impact could set it off, and there we go, broken neck for baby. Put your baby in the back seat for their own safety

Why would you want to its a safety feature! Put your baby in the back in a car seat where it belongs!!!

Carrying a baby in the front of a car shouldnt be done thats why you cant turn them off, its part of an integrated safety system that shouldnt be tampered with much safer for the baby to be strapped in to the back

I know exactly how to disarm it.
But I am not telling you.
I also have 3 small kids
2 year old boy
6 year old girl
8 year old boy
None of them ever ride in the front of the car, until they are 13 years old they will remain in the back where it is safe for them to sit.
Especially a baby in a VW – c’mon this car is small to begin with.
Dop you really want to see your baby crushed between the dashboard and the carseat??????
I didnt think so, do the motherly (smart) thing and put the baby in the back seat where it is safe. It’s up to you to keep the baby safe until it can make it’s own choices.
