    that tdi probably …
that tdi probably wasn’t broken in. Drivers with 10-15,000 miles are reporting between 45 and 50 mpg on the highway. You are right though. The older TDIs were more efficient because they weighed less and had a less powerful engine. 90 hp vs the new 140 hp.

On a prius i have no idea but you can put over 500,000 miles on a diesel.

    That jetta tdi …
That jetta tdi definitely was not broken in. I guarantee that if it had about 15,000 miles on it, they would have gotten at least 45 on the highway. Mine would have kicked the out of the prius. I have an 06 dsg and can get over 50 mpg at 70 mph on the highway. I average 44 mpg during normal highway/city driving. That’s right there with the prius at an average of 47 mpgs. The TDI is a million times more fun to drive too.

For 2010, PSA (Peugeot-Citroen) says to sale a hybrid diesel car !

  5. No diesel Mini …
No diesel Mini Cooper in the USA?
    BMW claims 60mpg for that.

But a diesel engine in a small car is still a stupid idea. They are loud and not fun to drive. Also the particle filter in a diesel doesn’t work properly till it’s hot and that can be a problem if you use it for short trips.

btw: Driving the Cooper to get 30mpg in the city is a waste of such a nice car.
I can’t get more than 25mpg out of mine.

(Though 38mpg on a highway are no problem at all – why did they only get 33?)

People are pretty negative about the things that are in direct competition with what they like.

It’s pretty simple, if it’s as good as something they like, then it sucks!

Like what the 5 year old says…

My ice cream is better then your ice cream.

It’s sad to see “grown men” act the same way.

    Black and White …
Black and White Taxis, owner Graham Boundy knows the truth about high-mileage Hybrids. His oldest Prius has managed a lifespan of 341,000 before needing replacement of their (NiMH) batteries. The only problem even at the end of their battery pack service life was a low voltage reading. So which means the battery started to wear out around 341,000 miles. At 15,000 miles a year, it would take you 22 years to wear the battery out. That’s way longer then I ever plan to keep a car.
